You’ve probably heard by now, but this year is kind of a big deal for the Huntsman World Senior Games. In 2016 we celebrate three decades of fostering worldwide peace, health and friendship. That’s 30 years of world-class competition, life-saving health screenings and fun and engaging social events that you, the participant, have made wonderfully amazing.
It’s not every day that you get to commemorate a 30th anniversary, so we wanted to make sure we did it up right. We also wanted to give you a sneak peek at some of the fun ways we plan to celebrate.
What kind of celebration would it be without cake? On Sunday, October 2 and Sunday, October 9, we’re having an official party with cake, balloons and party games at the Dixie Center. The festivities will begin at 5:00 PM. We'll have music and good people to get to know. It's going to be a party, so plan to attend.
Half-Minute to Win It
On Sunday, October 2 AND Sunday, October 9, in the foyer of the Dixie Center we are having Half-Minute To Win It games for fun and fabulous prizes. (You get it, 30 seconds for 30 years? That's pretty good, huh?) Every hour on the half, (See what we there, again? A half hour is 30 minutes. This is fun.) stop by the awards stand for your chance to laugh and maybe win a prize with crazy games and contests. But you have to hurry because you only have a half-minute to win it.
Gift Shop Specials
We’re going to have all kinds of $30 specials, and commemorative merchandise in the Gift Shop that you can take home with you to remember your time at the 30th Anniversary Huntsman World Senior Games. Watch for a coupon in your Valu-Book for a free gift from the Gift Shop as well.
The Opening Ceremonies, one of the highlights of the Huntsman World Senior Games, take place at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 4, on the campus of Dixie State University at the newly named Legend Solar Stadium. A perennial favorite among the athletes and community alike, this free show will feature the talents of local youth under the direction of Diamond Talent, the inspiring Parade of Athletes, and an impressive fireworks display. This year's keynote speaker will be three-time Olympic gold medalist in swimming, Debbie Meyer. This will be a 30 year celebration you won't want to miss.
Concert & Celebration
This year the Huntsman World Senior Games celebrates its 30th year. To commemorate this "Diamond Anniversary" the Games has invited, direct from Las Vegas, Neil Diamond - The Tribute, featuring Rob Garret and the K.O.D. Band. This true to character, family-friendly tribute to one the greatest entertainers of all time, Neil Diamond, will come to the Burns Arena on the Campus of Dixie State University on Tuesday, October 11. Gates open at 6:00 PM and the show starts at 7:00 PM. Admission is free to all and you will not want to miss this show.
There are 10,950 days in thirty years. We’d like to celebrate that fact with 10,950 athletes participating at this year’s Games. We’re well on our way. And while we won't have a final number until the Games are over, we have already registered more athletes than ever before in our 30 year history.
At the beginning of the registration season, we also set a goal to have a minimum of 30 different nations on this, our 30th anniversary, represented at the Games. I'm pleased to announce that just a few days before registration closed, we registered our 34th country. Mission accomplished.
To celebrate 30 years of the Huntsman World Senior Games, this season we gave away 30 Registration Fee Waivers to a variety of people participating in a number of different sports.
In addition, we’ve got brand new medals, an upgraded Athlete Shirt and a $20 myID bracelet from ENDEVR for EVERY registered participant that is our gift to you and much, much more. We're excited to celebrate 30 years of fostering worldwide peace, health and friendship with you.
